City of Hope
Who We Are
City of Hope is different from all other cancer centers. We’re innovative and independent, so we can speed our discoveries into treatments that directly benefit our patients and, ultimately, millions of people around the world. Great science combined with compassionate care is the future of modern medicine -- and we’re leading the way.
The National Cancer Institute has designated City of Hope as a Comprehensive Cancer Center, its highest award. Very few cancer centers across the country qualify for this designation. We earned this distinction because we have respected scientists and physicians working on everything from disease prevention and innovative treatments to community education. Our researchers know they’re on the front lines of the worldwide fight against cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
While most of the nation’s other leading cancer centers are affiliated with universities, City of Hope remains independent. This gives us the agility to put donor support where we know it is most needed. Our donors recognize their dollars really do drive the pace of scientific discovery. With their help, and the support of competitive government and foundation grants, City of Hope can move swiftly to treat, cure and even prevent disease altogether.
At City of Hope we believe that breakthroughs in the lab must be swiftly applied to benefit people everywhere. We are leaders in translational research — a merging of basic science, clinical research and patient care that empowers us to translate groundbreaking research into advances in disease prevention, diagnosis and treatment. We are one of the few institutions in the nation with the infrastructure, institutional will and enlightened donor base to promote this highly productive and patient-centered research model.
City of Hope grew out of and continues to thrive thanks to compassionate, committed people. For more than 90 years, City of Hope’s fundraising efforts have drawn on individual donors, corporate fundraising groups and our auxiliary membership to raise millions of dollars to support the institution’s life-saving goals. This worldwide network of donors plays a powerful role in advancing science and positioning City of Hope at the forefront of revolutionary changes in biomedical research. This support truly powers the breakthroughs of today and will make possible the even more remarkable discoveries of tomorrow.
