Thank You Event at City Hall

Board of Public Works President Cynthia Ruiz hosted an awards ceremony and thank you event in the Public Works Boardroom on February 15, 2007. Awards were presented to departments for top cash contributions. Over 150 city employees as well as representatives from all nine sponsoring charitable agencies attended the event. The event celebrated the hard work of all department coordinators and generous donations by City of Los Angeles employees.

City Employees Beat Goal

City of Los Angeles employees exceeded the 2006 fundraising goal for their annual Combined Charitable Campaign. The accounting is in and city employees donated more than $605,000 in 2006. One-time gifts of cash and checks totaled over $19,000 and employees pledged payroll deductions of $580,000. The campaign also saw an increase in the number of donors. City employees’ generous donations fund over 400 individual charities. Those charities provide help to tens of thousands of people in the diverse communities of greater Los Angeles.

Brotherhood Crusade is Lead Charitable Agency for 2007 Give to LA Campaign

Each year, on a rotating schedule, one of the ten charitable agencies who participate in the City of Los Angeles Combined Charitable Campaign becomes the Lead Agency. Charisse Bremond, President & CEO of Brotherhood Crusade, announced, “We are honored to take a leadership role for the City employees’ 2007 charitable campaign. This year Will Harris will be Brotherhood Crusade’s point person." Will commented, “I know that I speak for all of the charities in thanking the employees of the City of Los Angeles for their generous donations in 2006. I know that we can continue to have an impact and contribute to helping those who need assistance in the greater Los Angeles area. Our challenge is to surpass our 2007 goal of $600,000. I look forward to working with Board of Public Works President Cynthia Ruiz and all of the department coordinators throughout this great city.”

Cynthia Ruiz to Lead Give to LA Campaign

Board of Public Works President Cynthia M. Ruiz has volunteered once
again to lead the 2007 City of Los Angeles employees combined charitable
campaign, Give to LA.
 
 "Our City employees gave so generously last year and set a record with
their donations, and I was inspired again to volunteer to chair this
year's Give to LA Campaign.  Our new slogan embodies what the campaign
asks us to do - Give to LA, and to all of the wonderful organizations
and charities our campaign supports.  I hope that everyone will join me
in making this year’s campaign a major success," said Ruiz.

Los Angeles Combined Charitable Campaign’s Nancy Landa, a United Way Development Officer, announced that Cynthia M. Ruiz, president of the Board of Public Works, has volunteered to act as Chairperson of the 2006 City of Los Angeles Combined Charitable Campaign.

“We are thrilled that Ms. Ruiz is leading City of Los Angeles employees in the Caring, Giving, Changing Lives Charity Campaign and our efforts in making Los Angeles a better place for everyone.” Ms. Landa commented.

“I am excited to join the dedicated charitable agencies that comprise the City of Los Angeles employee giving campaign in reaching out to those who need our assistance to lead full, healthy and productive lives. I appreciate the value of giving back, and I know our generous employees will make this campaign a huge success!” said Ms. Ruiz.

Kickoff Breakfast and Coordinator Training
at City Hall on September 19:

The Caring, Giving, Changing Lives Combined Charitable Campaign will be kicking off with a Coordinator Breakfast and Training in the Tom Bradley Room at City Hall. Department Coordinators from departments across the City will be in attendance. The training will be followed by the introduction of a City Council resolution endorsing the LA City employees Combined Charitable Campaign in Council Chambers. All coordinators and Departmental General Managers have been invited to this event.

Mayor and Council  to Launch Campaign
in City Council Chambers

On September 19, the 2006 City of Los Angeles Combined Charitable Campaign kicks off with the endorsement of Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa and a City Council Resolution.  The Mayor continues his proactive commitment to improving the lives of the people of Los Angeles with his involvement with the Caring, Giving Changing Lives Campaign. A Council Resolution that urges all City employees to support the charity of their choice through payroll giving will be introduced.
