MAYOR VILLARAIGOSA ENDORSES GIVE TO LA 2009

"As the City of Los Angeles Combined Charitable Campaign kicks off, I ask you all to join me in giving back to our city," writes Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to all City of Los Angeles employees in his letter endorsing the 2009 Give to LA employee giving campaign.

Each year Mayor Villaraigosa and the City Council encourage city employees to support the ten charitable organizations that represent and support over 400 charities that serve various causes including health, the environment, education, poverty, among others. The City Council will be issuing an official City of Los Angeles Proclamation announcing and endorsing the campaign. City Council President Eric Garcetti as well as Jan Perry and Bill Rosendahl have all taken a strong interest in the campaign. Several Council members, including Wendy Greuel, have hosted Give to LA campaign presentations to staff members.

DEPARTMENT OF AGING CONFIRMED AS LEAD DEPARTMENT SPEARHEADING GIVE TO LA 2009

The Department of Aging and its staff led by General Manager, Ms. Laura Trejo, have been confirmed as the lead department to oversee the 2009 campaign. Within the Department of Aging is the Los Angeles Foundation on Aging which is one of the eleven agencies represented in the campaign.

Ms. Trejo and her staff have been instrumental in seeking city-wide support for the campaign, building on over 10 years of experience running the Give to LA campaign. The charitable agencies are excited about working with a great department that serves a great need in Los Angeles.

2009 CAMPAIGN SWINGS FOR THE FENCES KICKING OFF AT DODGERS STADIUM

To launch the 2009 campaign and to introduce department coordinators to this exciting and worthwhile endeavor, the kickoff breakfast will be held at Dodgers Stadium on September 1st, 2009.

The charitable agencies along with city officials and the lead department will host this event to train new coordinators and reconnect with old ones. The spirit of giving is alive and well as everyone is encouraged to "swing for the fences" because this year's campaign is Give to LA: Now More Than Ever. We all know the need to greater than ever in our present economy. But thankfully, spirited Los Angeles City employees also give generously to the charities of their choice from Give to LA.

HISPANIC SCHOLARSHIP FUND IS 2009 CAMPAIGN'S LEAD AGENCY

Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF)has a long history in workplace giving campaigns in Los Angeles, and is the lead agency overseeing operations of the 2009 Give to LA Campaign. Hispanic Scholarship Fund is the nation's leading organization supporting Hispanic higher education. Its scholarship awarded total over 26.5 Million annually with a 32 year history and over 82,000 scholarships awarded. Give to LA is honored to have Hispanic Scholarship Fund lead this year's campaign.

HSF representative Raquel Sanchez says, "Give to LA is a special campaign because employees have a chance to give back directly to their own communities in Los Angeles. HSF is honored to be the lead agency and look forward to a very successful campaign year."

GIVE TO LA HAS A NEW LOOK

The 2009 Give to LA campaign not only kicks off with great community outreach events, but also has a new logo and a new look.

The newly designed logo reflects the central theme of the campaign, which is giving back to Los Angeles itself. It features prominent Los Angeles structure and landmarks including Staples Center, Disney Concert Hall, US Bank Building, and of course, City Hall itself. The tree in the foreground signifies the campaign's deep committment to education and health.
